Order of the Silver Dragon

“Order of The Silver Dragon” is an association of young people - highschoolers, students and college educated people - founded in 2002, which promotes chivalry, medieval culture, old customs and beliefs but also the world of fantasy.
Within our many activities we would like to single out medieval chainmail and armor workshop. A chainmail is an armor made out of metal rings with the purpose of preventing minor injuries such as sword, axe or saber cuts and to avoid wound infections. The process itself, from chains to chainmail, isn’t much different from the technique used in the Middle-ages. Each of the approximately ten thousand chains used in the process of making a middle-sized chainmail is hand-opened, then closed with pliers and put into a precise pattern. The patterns differentiate by thickness and by the technique used to put the chains together (there are the European, Japanese and Persian technique). Armors created in our workshop became trademarks of the “Silver Dragons” and are recognizable throughout Croatia, and further. In our workshop we also make jewelry and modern fashion items out of the original medieval fabrics and in the original medieval technique we use to make chainmails.

Apart from various presentations on the chivalry tournaments, similar manifestations and chainmail crafting, “The Order” offers these activities:
- school of medieval sword fighting
- medieval costume sewing
- organization of educative team-games such as “The Treasure Hunt”
- Role Playing Games club (RPG club)
- designing and publishing Grifon magazine (first Croatian fantasy magazine)


Grifon magazine is the first fantasy magazine in Croatia. It is published by the Order's funds and its sponsorships with a goal to connect, improve and empower groups of people dealing with fantasy genre in Croatia and further.
Over thirty members of our organization and somewhere around twenty external cooperatives are taking part in the process of creation and publication of our magazine. Most of our associates are college-educated people, professional illustrators and famous writers. Grifon is published every four months, one issue for every season (spring, summer, autumn, winter)

The Order also offers presentations of medieval fights, armor rental, weapon rental as well as costumed movie extras for different presentations of fantasy and medieval themes.
